On June 4, 2013, a record-breaking audience of 1500 guests gathered at the Vancouver Trade and Convention Centre to watch a Broadway calibre live show recounting the extraordinary life of businessman and philanthropist Joe Segal. Conceived by Shel Piercy as a “documentary come to life,” the three-hour entertainment extravaganza featured original live music, singers, dancers, heartfelt tributes, emotional thank yous and an unforgettable medal presentation ceremony presided over by Johannes Vervloed, Consul General of the Netherlands. The night ended with a surprise performance by legendary crooner Paul Anka.

The event raised over two million dollars for Coast Mental Health.

Joe Segal: An Extraordinary Life dinner last night was simply outstanding. 1500 guests went away after being part of the dinners of dinners.

The entire evening was magical. The production itself was one of the most creative, engaging and fun gala events I have ever attended.
– Jen Schaeffers, Executive Director CKNW Orphans Fund

There was a standing ovation— one of many for Joe. And Joe was in tears, Rosalie was in tears, I looked to the head of my table and Lorne and Melita were in tears and I wanted an intermission so I could run to the lobby and phone my dad and tell him how much he means to me.
